Man City vs Nottm Forest: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

For the champions it’s five wins from five and at times the club have looked relentless and they will be expected to have few problems at home to Nottingham Forest at the weekend. In midweek Manchester City kicked off their defence of the Champions League as they beat Crvena Zvezda 3-1, it wasn’t all plain sailing though and City found themselves a goal down but they got the job done in the end. Of course with no European games for Forest they would have had a rest but such is the depth in Pep Guardiola’s side he won’t worry much.

City have scored 8 goals in their last two league games after beating Fulham 5-1 and last weekend they went a goal behind to West Ham before overcoming the Londoners 3-1. Already City are almost averaging 3 goals per game and they have only conceded 3 goals so far which is the best in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest are in 8th place and after the struggles of last season manager Steve Cooper is going to take that. It’s been a fairly positive start for the club despite two defeats so far and those ones came away to both Manchester United and Arsenal and ended up being very narrow defeats. Indeed the last time Forest played in Manchester they had run into a two goal lead so they can’t be taken too lightly. Recently Forest have gone to Chelsea and won 1-0 and their last game ended in a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley which would have been considered a poor result given how they have performed against better teams in the past month.

Team News:

Manchester City: Bernardo Silva is out with a knock and could miss the next few games. Jack Grealish has been ruled out with a thigh injury, Mateo Kovacic is only 50/50 to return due to a back injury. John Stones is expected to return from a muscle injury but will be assessed. Kevin De Bruyne is out for another three months due to a hamstring injury

Nottingham Forest: Serge Aurier is nearing a return with a knock and will be assessed. Danilo is expected to miss out again due to his hamstring, Willy Boly will be assessed after missing the last game through illness

Man City vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:

Last season in this fixture Manchester City won 6-0.

Nottingham Forest have managed just one win over City in the last 7 meetings.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Man City vs Nottm Forest Prediction:

Given that City have played Forest three times since 2002 we can’t read into h2h’s but at the same time we know what these two sides can bring to the field. Forest will be the underdogs but they should have learned something from last season's thrashing and while City have it in them to beat any side at home with plenty of goals we are expecting a closer game. For long periods Forest will have to give up the ball but they are also a side with confidence and one who won’t be afraid to come forward and City are suffering from some injury issues with Bernardo Silva the latest player on the treatment table.

Both teams to score is a decent price because City are at home and Forest are not lacking goals but it’s hard to see past City but as usual backing the champions to win at home is tough with their short prices. We do expect to see goals though and Forest can surely play their part.
