England Premier League
Sunday 23rd May 2021
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Manchester City will play their final game of the season at home and as champions and some fans will also be allowed inside the stadium to see them. This feels like it will be quite an occasion for the new champions of England.
Of course in six days from now City will contest in the Champions League final so their season isn’t over just yet but they will be determined to win this game in front of their fans. Form wise it is obvious though that the club have gone down a few gears in their last games. A 4-3 win over Newcastle was followed up by losing 3-2 to Brighton and they were winning that game. Manager Pep Guardiola would not have been too harsh on his team but this match being the last one and having the rare occasion of fans present means that City will most probably take it very seriously.
Everton have improved from last season that is the good news for the club. But one probably can’t help thinking that if the club had only performed better at home they could have finished in a top four spot. Instead Everton will be lucky to be playing in Europe next season. Currently Carlo Ancelotti’s side have are in 8th and that would be good enough to enter UEFA’s new Conference League competition. However lose this match and both Arsenal and Leeds could over take Everton if they win their games, indeed Arsenal would just need a draw for that.
So there is pressure on Everton but if they win this and Tottenham lose or draw Everton would make it to the qualifiers for the Europa League. Actually qualifying for the Europa League proper is not possible unless Everton record the biggest score ever in the Premier League and that isn’t going to happen against Manchester City.
Manchester City: Joao Cancelo is suspended for this game, City have no injuries.
Everton: Seamus Coleman is out with a knock. James Rodriguez is out with a calf injury.
Man City vs Everton Head to Head:
Manchester City won this fixture last season 2-1.
Manchester City have won the last 6 league meetings in a row.
6 of the last seven league games has been both teams to score.
Everton haven’t won away to Manchester City in the league since 2010.
Man City vs Everton Prediction:
Everton need the win and their away form this season has been very solid but make no mistake this will be a difficult game for them. Almost every other team would rest players and be cautious ahead of a Champions League final but City under Guardiola are much more relentless and they will be focused on winning this game.
It could be a tough end to the season for Everton who, after all of their efforts, look set to miss out on European football but if City win Everton will have to blame their poor home form.
The objective at least from Everton’s point of view will be to give a good account of themselves and make City work hard. Of course on their day Everton have the team to beat anyone in the league, but the way both clubs have played in the past month, City at this stage of the season look the favourites and should be able to get the job done.
The 1.44 being quoted for the home win won’t be for everyone so we will look into different options.
