Luton vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 6th April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Kenilworth Road

Match Preview:

For Luton they have every chance to stay up but like Burnley and Sheffield United the other clubs in the bottom three they keep blowing their leads and chances. Luton are 4 points if you include goal difference from safety which at this time is Nottingham Forest Form has been poor with just 3 points won from their last 15 on offer and in midweek the Hatters lost their 19th game of the season as they lost 2-0 away to Arsenal. They have at least kept many scores down against much superior sides and that is a credit to Rob Edwards' team but they need to win games. This home match presents that opportunity although they will be facing a side who have found solid form.

Bournemouth of course came back from 3-0 down at half time only a few weeks ago to beat Luton 4-3, it is unfortunate that the FA’s scheduling works out like this sometimes but it does perhaps add some extra spice to the game as Luton will be looking to avenge that result. Bournemouth are in 12th place and in the hunt for a possible European place and they come into this game having won their last 3 in a row. Last weekend they got past Everton 2-1 and in midweek won their 11th match of the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. Win here and depending on results the Cherries have the chance to enter the top half of the table so their motivation will be high.

Team News:

Luton: Reece Burke could be assessed ahead of the game but the Hatters have a number of long term absentees. Mads Andersen, Chiedozie Ogbene, Gabriel Osho, Daniel Potts, Tom Lockyer, Marvelous Nakamba, Albert Sambi-Lokonga, Jacob Brown and Amarii Bell are all missing

Bournemouth: Chris Mepham (illness) and Marcos Senesi (fitness issues) will both be assessed and have a good chance of returning. Luis Sinisterra is out until the end of the month at the earliest with a hamstring injury and Ryan Fredericks is out long term with a calf injury

Luton vs Bournemouth Prediction:

The 4-3 game that the two sides played out a few weeks ago, think of the sequel to that. Luton are going to try and fix that result this time, they will feel obliged to come at their opponents and we could be in for quite a spectacle. This fixture is interesting as it is not one where you would give it much thought compared to a mass of European fixtures this weekend but it does have the potential to be one of the very best games in terms of goals, tension and excitement. This is Luton’s chance and quite simply they have to grab it, you’d have to worry about the injuries the club are facing though. If they lose here not all is lost but the wheels are starting to come off and the games are getting fewer and fewer. They are up against a side in form but we will back the home side to get at least a point in this one.
