Liverpool vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 23rd May 2021
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Liverpool have a great record over Crystal Palace and they will be the big odds on to win this game which would secure the Reds a top four finish. It has been a poor season for Liverpool compared to the last two but if they were able to finish in the top four after everything that has happened that would feel like an achievement for the club this season. On paper they should win and the doubts of whether they can win games at home seems to have faded. In short Liverpool’s form has turned around and they have won their last four games.

Last week the Reds beat Burnley 3-0 and they have moved into 4th place with 66 points the same as Leicester but with a better goal difference. Indeed Liverpool could finish the season in 3rd if Chelsea lose or even draw their match with Aston Villa.

For Crystal Palace this game will be all about honouring manager Roy Hodgson who at 74 is bowing out of the game after almost 50 years. Palace are in 13th place and this game is a dead rubber for them but at the same time if they play well and frustrate Liverpool they could have a final say on how the top four works out.

The problem for the Eagles is form hasn’t been great and they have lost 3 of their last five games. Away from home it’s just 1 win from their last five and that came against bottom club Sheffield United.

Team News:

Liverpool: Diogo Jota will be assessed but looks like missing out on this one due to his foot injury. He is the only injury concern for the club although of course as noted the likes of Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita are all out long term.

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke will need to be assessed as he could have an ankle injury but there is no confirmation of this as of yet. Scott Dann could return from a slight muscle injury. Luka Milivojevic is out because of personal reasons. James McArthur will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Liverpool have won the last 8 meetings in a row against Crystal Palace.

Last season this fixture finished 4-0 to Liverpool.

Liverpool have scored 11 goals in their last 2 meetings against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Can Liverpool mess this one up? A few months ago you wouldn’t bet against it but the club do seem to have turned a corner and more importantly look focused and hungry. The bookmakers think so too because they are basically unbackable at their odds on price of around 1/7. We could see them scoring a few goals and surely Palace will play their hearts out for their manager too.

We expect to see a very fast paced game and end to end stuff but the home side powering through and securing their top four status. At their price to win though it isn’t worth the risk, so we will back them to dominate from start to finish.
