Liverpool vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Recovery will be one word on Jurgen Klopp’s mind when his Liverpool side come into this game on Monday evening. True Liverpool didn’t lose their opening fixture but drawing 2-2 at newly promoted Fulham was not part of the script and by the time the Reds play this game they could be 5 points behind Manchester City.

Nobody could see that Liverpool would not get all three points on the opening day of the season and the club were made to work very hard in the end to get the draw. Klopp could choose to look at how his side were able to dig themselves out of a hole but at the same time his side did not start the game well and for their standards were very average. With the consistency of teams now in the Premier League Liverpool cannot afford to keep dropping points and will need all three here and be expected to get it.

Crystal Palace actually played some good football against Arsenal and yet were beaten 2-0 in the end. Palace’s problem on the opening day of the season was their finishing, because they created many chances but really lacked quality up front. Wilfried Zaha is still a stand out player though, and has been brilliant for the last two seasons in particular, but you feel Palace need to dip into the transfer window before it closes, will they though?

Team News:

Liverpool: Diogo Jota is the big miss for Liverpool and he is expected to miss the next two weeks with a hamstring injury. Curtis Jones is out with a muscle injury with no fixed return date. Naby Keita has a small chance to be included after recovering from illness. Thiago has a hamstring injury and remains a doubt. Ibrahima Konate and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knock and hamstring) are both out longer term.

Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson has a foot injury and could miss the next 6-8 weeks. Jack Butland remains a major doubt with a hand injury, James McArthur is out for an extended period with his groin. Michael Olise is not due back for another week and looks set to miss out again with a foot injury. James Tomkins has a calf injury and could miss the next few weeks at least.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 3-0 to Liverpool and in last season’s games the Reds scored 6 goals past Palace.

Liverpool have won the last 11 games against Palace and the Eagles haven’t beaten them in 5 years.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Liverpool have been waiting for this game ever since the final whistle went at Craven Cottage and if they click and score early this could be a nightmare match for Patrick Vieira. It is true that Palace are a decent side and look strong, they should have a good season by their standards but this remains a very difficult match for the club given that Liverpool will want to put their Fulham result to bed.

The quality up front for Liverpool is an embarrassment of riches, people have talked about the loss of Sadio Mane but Darwin Nunez who has come in will be a spectacular player for the Reds, he proved it very quickly when Klopp brought him on in the 2nd half against Fulham. We expect him to score and him and Mohamed Salah already look like being a great partnership. Liverpool could get a few goals here and their odds on price of winning the game does not look appealing so we should concentrate instead on the goals market. We expect a good showing from Klopp’s team.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:

Liverpool to score 3+ goals at 1.9

Anytime goalscorer (Darwin Nunez) at 2.10

Anytime goalscorer: Mohamed Salah at 1.72
