Leicester vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th May 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

It’s incredible to think that the 2016 Premier League champions could be relegated on Sunday, but the likelihood is that they will. The Foxes come into this game in 18th place with 31 points and they will have to win here and hope Leeds lose or draw and that Everton do the same to have any chance of staying up.

This will be a tense game and Leicester are going to be up against a very confident looking West Ham side. Recent form for Dean Smith’s side has been poor with no wins and 3 points earned from 15. Their last game was a fighting point away to Newcastle with that game ending 0-0 but recent defeats against Liverpool and conceding 5 against Fulham may have sealed their fate, however it isn’t over just yet. The worry for Leicester has been their home form and they have the second to worst record in the league with just four wins so far and it’s been a month since they won their last game here which came against Wolves.

West Ham are more than safe and they could finish in 13th place with a win. Their last game was an impressive one as they came back from a goal down to beat Leeds 3-1. It was impressive given that Leeds needed to win and also came just three days after the Hammers infamously reached the Europa Conference final. David Moyes' side have also recently beaten Manchester United but they did lose away to Brentford and their away form this season has been poor with just 12 points won from 54. Indeed the Hammers come into this one having lost 3 away games in a row.

Team News:

Leicester: Ryan Bertrand is missing due to fitness issues. Ndidi is only 50/50 to return from a hamstring injury. Danny Ward, Jannick Vestergaard, Justin James, Caglar Soyuncu and Sammy Braybrook are all out for the season.

West Ham: Gianluca Scamacca is out with a knee injury, Emerson has a knock and will need to be assessed, but remains a doubt.

Leicester vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 2-2.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 2-0.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Leicester vs West Ham Prediction:

Leicester will need to give it their all and it is true that they have had recent positive results against West Ham. West Ham have looked very mature in the past month and it seems that Moyes has really settled the waters with the club as they try to push on and move up a level. His head was being called for only six weeks ago and that doesn’t seem to be the case now.

For Leicester their usual mental strength has deserted them and if they were to go a goal down we don’t see them coming back. That is the main difference between the sides this season one at times has been clinical and the other in the Foxes have looked meek.

Leicester will surely try but the Hammers have looked strong, solid and dangerous lately and despite a European final coming up they have every chance of getting something out of this game and they are excellent value to do so.
