Could it really happen again to Leicester when at the end of the season they just miss out on Champions League football? Last season it was Manchester United who denied them and this time it could be Liverpool.
It’s certainly been mixed emotions for the Foxes in the past few weeks after winning their first ever FA Cup they then losing to Chelsea a few days later in the league, which means the ball is no longer in their court so to speak and Leicester need other clubs to drop points to finish in the top four.
But the rot seemed to have set in long before the Foxes lost to Chelsea, and in fact they have won just one game from their past four. Brendan Rodgers side cannot finish lower than 5th and have 66 points, the same as 4th placed Liverpool but the Reds have a superior goal difference and are just 1 point adrift of Chelsea. There is everything to play for as we head into the final day of the season.
Tottenham are in 7th and if they want to qualify for the Europa League proper they will need to win this game and hope West Ham lose against Southampton. Otherwise Tottenham could still be involved in next season’s Europa League but they may have to go through the qualifying process first. Both Everton and Arsenal could pass Tottenham though if they lose or even draw this game and Ryan Mason’s team could end up with no European football next season.
Form for Tottenham has been mixed with two defeats from their last 3 games, and they have tended to struggle against quality sides overall. Last week they lost at home to Aston Villa after taking the lead. Away form has been good and the club’s last victory on the road was two months ago.
Leicester: Jonny Evans is ruled out with a foot injury, Cengiz Under has a hip injury but is trying to come back and is 50/50 for this encounter.
Tottenham: Japhet Tanganga is ruled out with an ankle injury, the club have no other injury worries.
Leicester vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season Leicester won this fixture 2-1.
In the reverse fixture earlier in the season Leicester won 2-0.
From the last 9 league meetings there have been six games where both teams have scored.
Leicester vs Tottenham Prediction:
Leicester have had Tottenham’s card in the last few games and if they are able to control the pace of the game they have a great chance to win this one. The problem for the Foxes is that is just one part of the puzzle. They will need either Liverpool or Chelsea to lose or draw, it isn’t impossible but all Leicester can concentrate on is winning this game.
The first goal will be all important and whilst Tottenham can be an obvious threat you just look at their toothless display against Aston Villa and the fact that they have struggled on the road recently and it is difficult to see past Leicester. However the Foxes can surprise and not in the positive way, and the best version of them really does have to turn up.
We will back the home win but this could be a very close and edgy game, we do believe we will see a few goals and Harry Kane for example will be looking to get on the score sheet as this looks like it will be his last game for the club.
