England Premier League
Sunday 22nd May 2022
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium
Leicester could finish the season in 8th place and given that they have been hovering around 11th and 12th for the majority of the season this would feel like a minor victory for the club.
The Foxes have blown hot and cold but have really dug in at times and can be a stubborn club. Their mentality even when playing for little has to be admired and they will be seen as the favourites to win this game. They will be aware that the team currently in 8th place, Wolves, will be playing Liverpool away from home and so they could well lose that game so victory here will be important for Brendan Rodgers team.
Recent form has been turned around and they have gone their last 3 games undefeated with wins over Norwich and Watford and a recent impressive draw away to Chelsea. At home the Foxes have won 50% of their games so far earning 10 points from their last 15 on offer.
Southampton could finish in 16th place if they lose or draw this game and Everton beat Arsenal. The Saints come into this game in poor form having lost their last 3. They did give Liverpool a scare though in the last game but eventually lost 2-1. It feels as if the club are just waiting for the season to end and knew they were safe a few weeks ago. Away from home the club has the fourth to worse record with just 15 points earned from a possible 54, they are shipping 2 goals per game on average.
Leicester: Youri Tielemans should be fine to play in this game after his knee injury. Justin James will be assessed due to illness which forced him to miss the last game. Ryan Bertrand and Ndidi are both missing due to their respective knee injuries.
Southampton: Fraser Forster has been ruled out for the season now with a back injury. Romain Perraud is out with a knee injury.
Leicester vs Southampton Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played here was in the FA Cup last season and Leicester won 1-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the match finished 2-2.
In the last six meetings Leicester has lost just once.
The last league game at Leicester ended 2-0 to the home side.
Leicester vs Southampton Prediction:
Leicester look like great value at 1.80 to win this game. They have the better team, they look hunger, in decent form, they have something to aim for in 8th place and have a very good record over a team in Southampton that are coming into this game in poor form and look dejected. So that price should be taken on. We will also be looking into the goal scorer market. It might be worth backing Jamie Vardy not only to score anytime which is also a decent price but for a double helping have him to score as first goalscorer. Vardy has been really unlucky with injuries so far but when he gets the chance to come back he usually doesn’t fail to keep banging the goals in and he will want to make his mark in the final home game and of course final game of the season.
We don’t feel Southampton will contribute much in this game they can’t really be trusted at this time and the team have really halted. This is a difficult game it is for any club coming here and Leicester have proven that even when they are up against teams who need the win they won’t let up for a moment.
