Leicester vs Chelsea: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th November 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

This game kicks off the Premier League once again with the final batch of international matches now played for the rest of the year. Both sets of managers will be delighted to have their players back in a game that really could go either way.

Chelsea will of course start as the favourites but travelling to the King Power Stadium has never been an assurance of 3 points.

The Foxes find themselves 11 points behind Chelsea and seven behind a top four spot and the club are not performing to the strengths we have witnessed in the last couple of seasons. Leicester come into this game in 12th place with 15 points and have gone their last 2 games without victory. These have included a recent draw against Leeds and a home defeat against Arsenal. At home Brendan Rodgers side have lost 2 won 2 and drawn 1 so there is no consistency to the club at present.

Chelsea are in 1st place so there objectives are being met in one of the toughest leagues in Europe however their 1-1 result at home to Burnley just before the international break felt like a blow. A clear two points dropped at home and not many would have seen such a result given that Thomas Tuchel’s side had won their previous 4 games.

Still Chelsea has a 3 point cushion over 2nd placed Manchester City and because of goal difference even if Chelsea lost this game they should remain in 1st place by the end of the weekend. The Blues have lost this season but are currently unbeaten away from home with 4 wins and one draw from their 5 games played so far. This includes winning their last 3 games on their travels with their last result ending in a comprehensive 3-0 win over Newcastle.

Team News:

Leicester: Marc Albrighton remains touch and go with a knock although Harvey Barnes with the same problem is being tipped to be fine for this game. Youri Tielemans could miss this one due to his calf and will be assessed.

Chelsea: Marcos Alonso has an ankle injury and looks set to miss out. Mateo Kovacic is 50/50 to return after his hamstring injury. Romelu Lukaku is also 50/50 with his ankle. Mason Mount has had dental surgery which has kept him out for the past few weeks and there has been no update given. Timo Werner is also 50/50 to return for this game after his hamstring injury.

Leicester vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 2-0.

Leicester haven’t lost to Chelsea at the league when at home for 4 years.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Leicester vs Chelsea Prediction:

Leicester have a decent recent record over Chelsea and the Blues have found it a struggle to get a win at the King Power Stadium. Chelsea have the better team of course but also has some key injuries and even if some return for this game there is no guarantee they will be at 100%.

However the problem for Leicester is which team is going to turn up? Will it be the one that has enjoyed some success over Chelsea or will it be the one that scored 4 goals past Manchester United? Or the team that limped to defeat against West Ham? The Foxes haven’t showed any consistency this season so that remains a worry and Chelsea do not have to be at their best to win this game.

Chelsea are odds on but there is still some value in taking them on and we will do so. Hopefully they will be ready to go after the international break and put their draw at home to Burnley down to a blip. This won’t be an easy game for the Blues but on our side is the fact that they don’t always have to rely on their strikers and there are goals all over this team.
