Leicester vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st January 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

You sense now that there is renewed pressure on Brendan Rodgers to keep his job at Leicester. After a terrible start to the season the board stuck with him while many wouldn’t, and it did look like before the World Cup that they had been justified to do so as form picked up. However the club head into this game having lost their last 4 and have 17 points and are just two points from the bottom three.

Leicester have no wins since the league restarted on Boxing Day and in their last game they lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest. The Foxes last home game finished in a 1-0 loss against Fulham and in that time they have managed to score just one goal. Leicester has one of the worst home records in the league though with just 2 wins so far and they have lost their last three games here.

Brighton are on a high and last weekend at home they brushed aside Liverpool to win 3-0. The Seagulls have won 3 of their last four games and have scored 7 goals past their last two opponents, aptly the Merseyside teams in Liverpool and Everton. The club are riding high and have 30 points and will be eyeing a spot in Europe for next season. Away form has been strong for Roberto De Zerbi’s side too as they have won 5 from 9 games and would rank in 5th place and they have won their last 3 away games, which is highly impressive with wins over Wolves, Southampton and Everton.

Team News:

Leicester: Ayoze Perez could well miss out again and is only 50/50 to return. Kienan Dewsbury-Hall is being tipped to return for this game after his glute injury. James Maddison should return after fitness issues but is likely he will start from the bench. Ricardo Pereria and Jonny Evans are out long term and Boubakary Soumare is about 3 weeks away due to his hamstring injury,

Brighton: Levi Colwill is currently the only concern for the Seagulls as he has a muscle injury and remains a major doubt to return for this game.

Leicester vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

Earlier in the reverse fixture this season Brighton ran out 5-2 winners.

It’s been almost 9 years since Brighton beat Leicester away.

The last 5 games in a row has seen both teams to score.

Leicester vs Brighton Prediction:

Leicester need to pick themselves back up and they would normally be fancying their chances in a home game with Brighton, however this Brighton side are in brilliant form. They have suffered a blow though as one of their best players Leandro Trossard has left the club and joined Arsenal. But we don’t think it will immediately affect them. They have having an Us vs Them attitude and it has been infectious and we have witnessed this earlier in the season when they lost their manager Graham Potter. So key elements of the club keep leaving and yet there is a mental strength within this side to do very well this season.

Nothing of late has convinced us that Leicester can win this game and they are really suffering through a succession of key injuries and also poor form for players they could normally rely on like Jamie Vardy for example. It may not be easy but we will be opting for a Brighton victory.
