Leeds vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd October 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Leeds come into their 9th game of the season with just one victory so far and as a result are in 17th place, although there is a 3 point gap to the bottom three.

These are worrying times for the club with the only advantage being that it is so early in the season. You have to wonder though when and how their recovery will take place, we say each weekend this could be the beginning of them changing their form around, and then it doesn’t happen. Marcelo Bielsa has had to deal with some key injuries namely striker Patrick Bamford, but he wasn’t scoring goals before, and after last season it isn’t quite clicking for him.

At home Leeds have lost 50% of their games so far though at least won their last game here, so that could be something to follow. Leeds opponents Wolves have been in good form since a sluggish start and manager Bruno Lage has his team playing again. Taken on the last 3 games alone Wolves have the best form in the league with 3 wins in a row. Last weekend they were absoultely terrific as they came back from 2 goals down to beat and stun Aston Villa away from home winning 3-2 in the end. This followed victories against Southampton and Newcastle and the club have risen up to 10th place and have double the points of their hosts.

What has also been impressive with Wolves is that 9 of their 12 points have come away from home, not so good news for Leeds. Lage’s team are actually unbeaten away from home since mid August. Victory at the weekend will continue their fantastic run and they could climb up to 8th place at least.

Team News:

Leeds: Luke Ayling has recovered from his knee injury but will miss this game and isn’t due back for at least another 10 days. Patrick Bamford is still out but could be back before the end of the month with his ankle. Junior Firpo is out with a muscle injury but should be back before the end of the month. Kalvin Phillips is a major doubt through fitness issues. Robin Koch is still out and not due back for another month.

Wolves: Willy Boly has been ruled out with a knock. Pedro Neto, Jonny and Yerson Mosquera are all out long term.

Leeds vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-0 to Wolves.

Wolves have won the last 5 meetings in a row between the clubs.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

4 of the last six meetings has ended with the correct score of 1-0.

Leeds vs Wolves Prediction:

Leeds look too good to continue their dire form but the problem they have is that key players are out and the other ones that should be performing on the pitch simply aren’t. It’s interesting to see that Leeds are the slight favourites to win this game, but it’s hard to buy that from what we have seen in the early stages of the campaign.

Wolves are very good value and the team look like they are in a good place, so it is tempting to back them for the victory. Raul Jimenez is getting more and more chances and he may fancy himself to score against a leaky Leeds defence so he is worth backing too.

There should be caution here because Leeds feel like a wounded animal ready to strike but if Lage can set his game plan into place this could be a match that Wolves could control from the beginning. The home fans already come into this game dejected and Wolves will need to start well and create that toxic atmosphere with home fans having to watch their team not perform to the best of their abilities. Any way you look at this fixture it feels like advantage Wolves even before a ball is kicked.
