Leeds vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th May 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

So for Leeds to keep their Premier League status they would need Everton to lose and Leicester to either lose or draw and they would have to beat Tottenham. It’s a lot of ifs and quite frankly too many and it seems as if their project has failed. So far bringing in Sam Allardyce to rescue the club has been a real head scratcher. He has earned £500,000 in less than a month only to see the team win 1 point from their last 9 and even a win here does not guarantee they will stay up. Perhaps more shocking is that Leeds have continued to leak goals under Allardyce 7 goals so far in those three games.

For Leeds, last weekend’s 3-1 loss to West Ham seems to have been the telling point and they really needed a win to have had any chance of staying up. They had taken the lead and if they had seen that game out then their destiny would have been in their own hands. At home Leeds haven’t won a game for almost two months when they beat Nottingham Forest and their last home game finished in a 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

Tottenham have imploded and since Antonio Conte left they have been quite frankly a disaster with just 1 win in their last five games and three defeats in their last four. All of this means that they may not qualify for Europe and if they do it would be to play in the Europa Conference League, a huge step down from this season's Champions League. How do they manage to keep Harry Kane this summer? To qualify for Europe Tottenham must win this game and hope that Aston Villa lose or draw or they could draw here and so could Villa but then both of those sides must hope that Brentford don’t win, in short it looks tough to see Tottenham in European action next season but certainly not impossible.

Team News:

Leeds: Patrick Bamford has a hamstring injury but will be assessed, Archie Gray, Darko Gyabi and Mateo Joseph are all unavailable and on international duty. Luis Sinisterra is out for the season and Rodrigo is being tipped to return from a foot injury.

Tottenham: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is being tipped to return from a recent knock. Eric Dier is out with his groin issue, Cristian Romero, Hugo Lloris and Ryan Sessegnon are all out.

Leeds vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season Tottenham won this fixture 4-0.

Tottenham have been able to score 8 goals past Leeds in the last two meetings.

Tottenham have won the last 3 meetings in a row.

There is a 90% return to see over 2.5 goals.

Leeds vs Tottenham Prediction:

Expect a frantic and quite simply crazy end to end game, and it should be a good one. Tottenham play for less because one suspects that the Conference League isn’t where the club wants to be. For Leeds it is obvious they must win to give themselves a chance. Like another relegation threatened side in Everton they have a lack of goals in them and this could be a major factor. Leeds defence remains leaky too and while the players are going to be fired up we have witnessed a common trend already with Allardyce in charge where his side start games positively and then fades.

The problem Leeds have is that they must come forward and attack and that is going to create gaps for an under confident Tottenham side but one that still has excellent attacking players and we see more pain and gloom for the home side at the weekend.
