Leeds vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 12th September 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

There is just one game on Sunday in the Premier League but it should be a memorable one as Leeds take on Liverpool. These two produced 9 goals between them in their two meetings last season and it would be a surprise not to see a few goals at the weekend.

Leeds have not started the new campaign well and are in 15th place with no wins so far. After being thumped 5-1 by Manchester United Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been able to stem that flow by drawing their last two games against Everton and Burnley. The worry for Bielsa is seeing 8 goals conceded already but he has admitted on several occasions that Leeds will not change their attacking approach under his stewardship, but that might be hard to justify against the Reds.

Liverpool were able to draw 1-1 with Chelsea in their last game though they needed Reece James to be sent off. For the whole of the 2nd half playing against 10 men and at Anfield, Liverpool could not find the winner. Still they are in 5th place with seven points and unbeaten and they have beaten Burnley and Norwich so far.

Goals are back in the team too and they will fancy their chances to score a few at the weekend. The Reds have only conceded 1 goal so far.

Team News:

Leeds: Robin Koch has a pelvic injury, there has been no update and he is expected to miss this game. There are no other major injuries for the club.

Liverpool: Roberto Firmino has a hamstring injury and looks to be doubtful to recover in time for this game. James Milner has a lack of match fitness but could be assessed, he is currently 50/50 to make the team. Takumi Minamino is set to miss out with a muscle strain.

Leeds vs Liverpool Head to Head:

This fixture ended 1-1 last season.

Leeds have not beaten Liverpool for 10 games going back to 2001.

There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

In the last 22 meetings there has been just one match that finished 0-0.

Leeds vs Liverpool Prediction:

Bielsa needs to find the common ground where his team can enjoy their football but not be so naive when they are being attacked on the counter. Liverpool have the better team but Leeds will not be afraid of them and will have plenty of chances too. It was important that striker Patrick Bamford scored last time out as he is finding his feet once again in the league.

For Liverpool they are looking tight in defence and having Virgil van Dijk back is going to make a huge difference for them. They remain a dangerous time capable of coming here and scoring a few goals. They may look at their Merseyside rivals Everton and see they were able to get 2 here a few weeks ago.

This isn’t an easy match to predict because if Liverpool click they could score 5 goals but of course this match finished in a 1-1 draw last season. Recently Liverpool have done well at Leeds but the scores have been quite close but we can see that changing and the Reds have the chance to run riot here.
