Leeds vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd January 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Leeds recent form is among the very worst in the Premier League with just 2 points won from their last 15 and while they are not in the bottom three yet there is every chance they could be soon. Jesse Marsch’s side have 17 points and are only two points from a relegation battle but the way they have played so far suggests that a battle is coming to survive in the league just like last season.

Last week Leeds lost their ninth game of the season as they lost 2-1 away to Aston Villa. Though before that they had gone their last two games without losing and had fought bravely to draw against West Ham and more impressively away to Newcastle. At home from 9 games their record reads won 3, lost 3, and drawn 3 but they have only earned 4 points at home from their last 15 on offer.

It’s more positive news for Brentford who are 12 points to the better of their opponents and are in 8th place. Indeed so far this has been a superb season for the Bees and they might even be eyeing a European finish. Their form doesn’t look to be waning either and they have won their last three games after beating West Ham, Liverpool and Bournemouth and a win here could see them climb up another two places depending on other results around them.

Away form has seen the majority of their games end in draws with 4 from 9 games and even though they only have 2 wins on the road so far this has all occurred recently and they have won those two in their last two away games and are unbeaten on the road for their last 3 games. There is a lot to be happy with right now if you’re a Brentford fan.

Team News:

Leeds: Liam Cooper has a knock and will be assessed, Stuart Dallas is sidelined with a leg injury. Adam Forshaw looks to be out until at least the beginning of February with his hip, that is the same timescale for Archie Gray with his ankle. Crysencio Summerville is missing with his ankle and due back in two weeks and Robin Koch will be assessed with a slight knock.

Brentford: Shandon Baptiste will be hoping to return after recovering from injury but will be assessed due to fitness issues. Rico Henry is expected to return from his calf injury. Frank Onyeka has a hamstring injury and looks likely to miss the next two months.

Leeds vs Brentford Head to Head:

Last season the teams drew 2-2 in this fixture.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brentford won 5-2.

The last 4 games have seen both teams to score.

Leeds vs Brentford Prediction:

Leeds need to find the points quick and they need to make Elland Road a difficult place to come too. Since returning to the Premier League last season Leeds haven’t been able to achieve that, not on a consistent basis and if you do not sort out your home form it can spell problems. Leeds have only had two games at home since the restart of the season and that was a defeat against Manchester City which would have been expected and a 2-2 draw with West Ham but in the game against West Ham they had to come back twice and this is a Hammers team who have struggled this season now Leeds are taking on a very confident Brentford side and we will be backing the away team to get at least a point.

Earlier in the season Ivan Toney scored a hat trick against Leeds and we think at a good price he will get on the score sheet again, he’s having a terrific season and is in great form, so back him with a Brentford victory.
