Fulham vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 6th April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Fulham are in 13th place and because they are one of the clubs who has already played 31 games you sense that a European position is slipping from their grasp now although it was always a faint idea. That’s what one win in your last 4 games at this stage of the season does for you. The Cottagers lost 3-1 at relegation threatened Nottingham Forest in midweek and that was followed up by a 3-3 draw against Sheffield United, although Marco Silva’s side came back in that game overall form has not been punchy enough and it has shown.

Fulham can at least boast a decent home record and have the seventh best in the league with 28 points won from a possible 45. Recent home form has seen 3 wins from their past four with victories over Bournemouth, Brighton and a delightful and impressive 3-0 win over Tottenham. Newcastle looked down and out last weekend against West Ham at home but they were able to come back from 3-1 down to win 4-3. But there would be disappointment in midweek as they stayed at home but could only draw 1-1 with strugglers Everton. With 44 points and in 8th place the Magpies have a great chance of finishing in a European competition but the club's away form has left a lot to be desired this season. For all the quality and budget that they have Newcastle have lost 9 games from 14 and won just 3 on the road. This comes off the back of their last two games away from home having lost those and conceded 7 goals in the process to Arsenal and Chelsea.

Team News:

Fulham: The club has no injuries to the first team squad coming into this game

Newcastle: Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope are hoping to return later this month but won’t make this game. There are a plethora of long term injuries for the Magpies and the following are out for extended periods; Callum Wilson, Matt Targett, Valentino Livramento, Jamaal Lascelles, Miguel Almiron, Sven Botman and Joelinton

Fulham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

The clubs met this year already at this ground in the FA Cup and Newcastle won 2-0.

Last season Newcastle won this fixture 4-0.

Newcastle have won the last 5 meetings in a row and Fulham haven’t beaten Newcastle at home in almost 8 years.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Fulham vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle really have had the better of Fulham lately indeed it’s been almost two years over 4 games since Fulham last scored against them. However this game does feel different. Newcastle remain a poor results side away from home and they have an incredible amount of key injuries. This can be sometimes masked at home with the home crowd and surroundings but we would guess that the misery of playing away will continue for Howe’s side and it might, in the end, be pivotal to them missing out on Europe for next season. Fulham is a tough ground to come to and they are a great price to win this game and we will be backing the Londoners to get all three points here. Their own form needs to improve granted but they also have a full squad and a few dangerous players who will be testing the visitors.
