France vs Switzerland: Preview and Prediction

European Championships 2020
Monday 28th June 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Arena Națională (Bucharest)

Match Preview:

These two neighbouring countries will have no love lost between them as they try and qualify for the last eight on Monday evening.

France, the world champions will of course be the odds on favourites to win this game and when you look at both teams on paper this does seem fair. Didier Deschamps team had an incredibly difficult group to navigate where they had to play Germany and Portugal and even Hungary ended up being a decent side in which France could only draw 1-1 with. France as expected have played some good football and Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante have stood out for different reasons, Karim Benzema back in the side after 6 years is scoring goals too. Though Kylian Mbappe ever a danger is yet to score in these championships. Indeed some of the finishing for France has not been on par with when they won the World Cup. However let’s remember France only came to life in the knock out stages in Russia, could the same happen here?

Switzerland are here because they beat Turkey 3-1. Earlier in the group stages they were able to draw with Wales, although they were winning that game. Tellingly though the Swiss were defeated by Italy 3-0, and that could tell us a lot about this game and the fact that this Swiss side may find the step up in class too much. Switzerland will feel happy though that they were able to score 4 goals already although they only qualified for the knock outs in the end by being one of the best 3rd placed ranked teams.

Team News:

France: Lucas Hernandez looks set to miss this game with a knee injury so Clement Lenglet looks set to step in. Lucas Digne is a major doubt and is being widely tipped to miss this game.

Switzerland: Nico Elvedi missed the last game but he is back in defence for this one.

France vs Switzerland Head to Head:

Switzerland haven’t beaten France for 29 years.

The two teams met at Euro 2016 where that game finished 0-0.

There is an interesting pattern which has continued for the past 8 meetings and if it continues then both teams should score in this game.

France vs Switzerland Prediction:

France are around 1.62 to win this game and they should be able to do the job in 90 minutes. Switzerland are going to defend deep and give France the ball and try to counter and hope that some of France’s finishing replicates their group stage games. There was just that killer instinct missing with the team, but if they find it here then even a price of 1.62 is going to look tempting, and it is hard to go against France in this match.

We have backed and followed Kylian Mbappe and he has had chances but not been able to convert them. This game does look set up for Mbappe who will surely have some good chances and we will back him to score anytime.

We have had perhaps one big surprise result in Czech Republic beating the Netherlands but we don’t expect to see one on Monday night and France if at their best should ease past into the last eight.

France vs Switzerland Betting Tips:

France to beat Switzerland at 1.62

Anytime goalscorer: Kylian Mbappe at 2.75
