Everton vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 17th October 2021
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Everton have had a superb start under new manager Rafa Benitez and they could break their own record of winning their first 4 home games of the season with victory at the weekend.

Traditionally Everton have recorded some good victories over West Ham but a few poor results will have given the Hammers some belief that they can come to Everton and get a result.

Everton are in 5th place and would make a real splash possibly into the top 3 with a win depending on other results around them. Form is good for the club who only have one loss so far and one in their last five games. A 1-1 draw against Manchester United was almost seen as a disappointment for them and that was away from home, that is how good the club are playing currently. At home not only are Everton winning but they have returned 8 goals from 3 games and conceded just twice. The clubs last home game finished in a 2-0 win over Norwich.

West Ham started the season much like they played in the last, very positively, but there have been a couple of set backs. The Hammers have won just once in their past five games and that could be a warning sign. Their last match ended in a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Brentford, but the warning signs had been there for a few weeks before after dropping points against Southampton and Crystal Palace.

On the road David Moyes side would be in 4th place and in fact are unbeaten so far. Though after facing Newcastle, Southampton and Leeds one could assume they haven’t played any club in form as of yet.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out with a muscle injury but is being tipped to return next week. Andre Gomes has a calf injury and is out. Richarlison has a knee injury and has been ruled out. Alex Iwobi has a knock but should be fit to play. Yerry Mina was on international duty so is a major doubt. Fabian Delph is still out with a shoulder injury and won’t be back until at least the beginning of November.

West Ham: Vladmir Coufal has been struggling with his groin but he will be assessed as he has made some progress with it. It’s the same problem for Ryan Fredericks and he will face a late test.

Everton vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season West Ham won this fixture 1-0.

5 of the last 6 meetings has seen under 2.5 goals.

Everton have won 5 of the last 10 meetings with the Hammers winning 3.

Everton vs West Ham Prediction:

What has been impressive with Everton and we witnessed it at Manchester United is that they have continued to play well even without such important players such as Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. Andros Townsend has stepped up and Demarai Gray remains a threat. This is an Everton side who are very pleased to play for their manager so even if key players are missing they are fighting hard and adapting well to the situation.

West Ham have some quality players but are they feeling a tad sorry for themselves? This will be a game where we might find out, as the team are supposed to be up for this game, this is David Moyes returning back to Everton and he would love to snatch a cheeky victory like he did so last season.

But the Brentford loss is a downer and Moyes will be hoping that his side get back to basics, they have been very good for the past 12 months, and they are sure to get chances here. But we will back the team in better form, Everton unlike last season are very happy to play at home and are really embracing their fans being back to support them.
