Everton vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 13th September 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Everton have started the season very positively and head into their 4th game unbeaten. Rafa Benitez’s side beat Brighton away 2-0 in their last game and with 7 points so far the Toffees could go 4th or even 3rd if they score a few goals at Goodison Park on Monday evening.

Everton’s last game at home seems a long time ago and indeed almost a month has gone by so the fans will be really excited to see their team in the flesh again and we should expect a good atmosphere at the famous stadium. The last time Everton played here they fell a goal behind against Southampton but played the better football and came back to win 3-1.

Burnley are in 18th place and are waiting for their first win of the season. Sean Dyche’s team lost their first two games in a row against Brighton and Liverpool but at least ended that unwanted run with a draw against Leeds at home in their last match. Burnley did play some good football away to Liverpool so that could be seen as a warning sign for Everton and the Reds were made to dig very deep for all 3 points.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be assessed because of a slight muscle injury but he should be fine for this game. Seamus Coleman has recovered from a hamstring injury and is being pencilled in for this game. James Rodriguez still has fitness issues but could face a late test. Fabian Delph is out long term with a shoulder injury.

Burnley: Nathan Collins has a knock but it isn’t thought to be serious. Maxwell Cornet had a dead leg but is expected to be fine for this game. Connor Roberts, Dale Stephens and Kevin Long are all out long term.

Everton vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season Burnley won this fixture 2-1.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Burnley have beaten Everton 5 times from the last 10 meetings, with 4 Everton victories and 1 draw.

Everton vs Burnley Prediction:

It could be said that Burnley are like Everton’s bogey team as they have caused the Toffees all sorts of problems over the last decade, even with an inferior team, at least on paper. Dyche knows how to play Everton and that could be a genuine threat that Benitez will have to counter.

Everton look solid and are at home so anything less than a win would feel like a disappointment for them. And we can’t see Burnley getting anything here, not this early in the season when Benitez is out to impress and win over the Goodison fans.

The home side will need to be focused though, this won’t be an easy game but you feel there are a couple of goals in this Everton side now and they have been scoring and at this stage nothing suggests that they can’t come away from this game with the 3 points in the bag.
