Everton vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Match Preview:

The news in the city of Liverpool is that Everton are going to have a new owner after Farhad Moshiri sold his stake in the club to American investment firm 777 Partners, this may be a timely boost for the famous club who are trying to avoid relegation and have a new stadium being built which is due to open for the start of next season.

In this campaign it has already looked like a struggle for the club, who from their opening 4 games have lost 3 and drawn one. Their last game before the international break witnessed the club earn their first point of the season as they came back to draw 2-2 at Sheffield United. The worst defeat so far was losing 4-0 away to Aston Villa but Sean Dyche’s side have also lost two games at home already, possibly against two sides who won’t be expected to finish in the top half of the table in Fulham and Wolves, and that is worrying. The good news is that the Toffees have played some good football and just been perhaps unlucky on some occasions but they will need to start winning games.

Arsenal are intent on challenging for the league title again and they have started well with 3 wins a draw. That draw was a surprise one though in a game that ended 2-2 at home to Fulham. The Gunners have since bounced back from that and beat Manchester United 3-1 at home just before the international break. Whilst the club are in 5th place despite a solid start they are just 2 points behind the current leaders Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s side have only had to play one away game so far and that was a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Team News:

Everton: There are no new injuries for the club but Dele Alli is sidelined with his hip injury. Seamus Coleman won’t return for at least another month due to his knee injury. Jack Harrison has a lack of match fitness and no update has been given on the player suggesting that he is likely to miss out again for this game.

Arsenal: Thomas Partey is out with a groin issue and not expected back for four weeks. Jurrien Timber is out long term with a knee injury, Mohamed Elneny is out long term also with a knee injury.

Everton vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season Everton won this fixture 1-0.

Everton have won 4 of the last six meetings.

It’s been 6 years since Arsenal beat Everton away from home.

Everton vs Arsenal Prediction:

Everton will be drawing on recent results at home to Arsenal when they come into this game. Despite the London side boasting superior quality in their squads they have struggled to beat Everton away from home and it’s been like this for some time now. Arsenal of course have the quality to come here and give Everton a hiding as witnessed in 2017 when they won 5-2 and in 2009 when they also won 6-1. Everton would like to think they have moved on from that but we have seen that the back four’s focus at crucial times can be lapsing.

At home despite two defeats already Everton have played good football and they do create numerous chances and the onus will be on the side to come forward. The problem with that is Arsenal’s devastating counter attack. We expect to see a fast physical game but the worry is Everton going toe to toe with this Arsenal side, at the same time who knows quite yet if the Gunners will struggle on the road? We are not convinced Everton's weak defence will be able to stop the Arsenal attack, therefore we will be backing the away team.
