Crystal Palace vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd October 2021
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace drew 1-1 against Brighton in their last game but it would have felt like a defeat given that they conceded a 95th minute equaliser and that would have been incredibly deflating for a side who have been getting better by each passing week.

The Eagles have lost 1 in their last five games and have earned six points from their last five games as their results have been littered by draws. So whilst there has been improvement from them they come into this game on Sunday in 15th place. Victory could see the club climb up 2-3 places though.

Leicester are in 13th place and have just one point more than their hosts. With just 1 victory in their last five games it’s fair to say this hasn’t been a good start for a club used to be mixing in the top 4. The Foxes drew 2-2 against Burnley at home in their last game and from 3 away matches played they have lost two. Their only win so far came against Norwich, and with the Canaries being so poor that isn’t something to get excited about.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: The Eagles have Nathan Ferguson out until November but have no new injuries to report ahead of this game.

Leicester: Jonny Evans is a major doubt because of illness. Ndidi has a hamstring injury and is set to miss out. Justin James won’t return until the end of the month with his knee and Wesley Fofana is out long term with his leg injury.

Crystal Palace vs Leicester Prediction:

With Crystal Palace they have a very exciting forward line and if they click we could see an entertaining game. Palace have played 3 games at home so far and the encouraging news for Patrick Vieira’s side is that they are unbeaten with two draws and one win. Vieira has deployed a 4-3-3 formation at home where his team have gone for the attack. He understands that points at home will determine if the club stay up or not. Even when he faced Tottenham there was no talk of changing the system and of course it worked as they beat the Londoners 3-0.

However it is interesting to note that in those 3 games Palace have had just 9 shots on target and with the likes of Wilfried Zaha up front they would be expecting more at home.

Leicester feel like a team rushed off their feet at the moment. Are they still feeling the effects of a tough last season and being pipped at the line yet again to finish 5th and thus not qualify for the Champions League for a second time in a row? We must remember that while Palace stayed at home and will be playing their 2nd game in a row here Leicester have been busy and in midweek they travelled to Legia and lost 1-0 in the Europa League.

Crystal Palace should be feeling they have a good chance in this game and you get the feeling that Vieira will be very upset if they can’t beat a team who are not on form and are looking weary in the last few weeks. Palace are a great price to win the game and it should be taken on whilst covering the draw on the refund.
