Crystal Palace vs Fulham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace are on course to do better than last season and Roy Hodgson’s wish in his final season as a manager would be to get Palace to finish in the top half of the table and a possible European qualification. On current evidence while Palace may improve on last season a European finish does not look realistic. This was highlighted last weekend as Palace went down 3-1 at Aston Villa, but were in the lead with just three minutes to go. Perhaps Hodgson’s side will be happy to be returning back home.

At Selhurst Park they have faced a narrow 1-0 loss against Arsenal but have beaten Wolves 3-2. Palace come into this game in 9th place and have 7 points from their opening five games. Fulham have the same points as their opponents but are just below them in 10th due to goal difference. Recent form for the Cottagers has seen just 1 win from their last four games although that victory happened last weekend with victory over Luton in which they won 1-0. It was an expected win but a close one. The club's last away game ended in a 5-1 defeat at Manchester City and they have also recently lost against Fulham. Marco Silva’s side have won on the road this season which was against Everton but so far it has been hit and miss from the Londoners. On one hand they will be satisfied with having seven points already on the board but there doesn’t appear to have been any progress from last season.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Jordan Ayew will be assessed as he has a dead leg but is being tipped to be fine. Jefferson Lerma looks set to miss out with his hamstring. Marc Guehi has a hip injury and looks to be a doubt for this game after missing out last weekend also. Matheus Franca is still out with his back with no fixed return date, Michael Olise is out with his hamstring and James Tomkins remains a doubt with a recent knock.

Fulham: Sasa Lukic has a knock and there has been no updates on his condition and he is expected to miss out again. Antonee Robinson could be assessed following his muscle injury, but is only 50/50 to return. Tosin is out with a muscle injury and is not due back for another 5 weeks.

Crystal Palace vs Fulham Head to Head:

Last season Fulham ran away with a 3-0 victory in this fixture.

It’s been 4 games since Crystal Palace managed to beat Fulham.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Fulham Prediction:

In the last 4 meetings between these two sides when Crystal Palace have been at home they have managed just one win. Fulham have been able to get some decent results over the Eagles in recent times and both teams come into this game with similar form and that is why there is a lot of value in this game. Perhaps it is telling that Fulham have scored 5 goals against Palace in their last two games and yet 3 of those goals have come from Aleksandar Mitrovic who of course has left the club this summer.

We expect a good physical game and a close one and we will be backing the home side to get the win. It hasn’t been an easy week for the Eagles who witnessed manager Roy Hodgson having to miss the Aston Villa game as he was taken ill but reports from the club have been encouraging and in fact Hodgson has been back at training and that will be a relief for the players and fans and we expect Palace to be right on the ball from kick off.
