Crystal Palace vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 10th April 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Roy Hodgson would like another win just to feel totally safe but let’s be honest Crystal Palace will be safe this season and they come into this game in 12th and are also 12 points ahead of the bottom three.

It means that Palace can play for the rest of the season without fear and with some freedom and that will not be easy on any of their remaining opponents, although they will be the underdogs in this game.

Palace managed a very good 1-1 draw at Everton in their last game and form has been good with just 1 defeat in their past five. At home they have gone their last 3 games undefeated with their last home game ending in a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. Last season Palace ended the season with 43 points and with 38 they are on course to better that so this will be the Eagles objective until the end of the season.

Chelsea were stunned at home last weekend as they lost to 19th placed West Bromwich Albion. They conceded 5 goals in a 5-2 defeat at a time when everyone was praising new manager Thomas Tuchel for the way he has dealt with the Blues defence. However, after they beat Porto 2-0 away in the Champions League with a solid performance, and the West Brom game already feels like a blip, just one of those afternoons.

Chelsea are expected to be back to their best here and have been wonderful under Tuchel so far. The West Brom defeat did dent their chances of a top four finish though and they have slipped to 5th so this is a must win game for the Blues. On the road they are undefeated for 3 months and have won 7 of their 15 games so far. The one worry is that they don’t seem to be scoring many goals under Tuchel and have 19 so far away from home.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Michy Batshuayi is ineligible to face his parent club. Nathan Ferguson could miss out again because of a lack of match fitness. James McArthur could miss out with his on going calf and James McCarthy has a groin problem that has kept both players out for the past month, they could both be assessed ahead of the game though. James Tomkins is still out with his eye injury.

Chelsea: Thiago Silva is suspended for this game because of his sending off last weekend v West Bromwich Albion. The club have no other injuries coming into this match.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Chelsea won this 5 goal thriller last season winning 3-2.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Chelsea won 4-0.

Chelsea have won the last six meetings in a row.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Prediction:

Chelsea are looking very good in the Champions League and should qualify for the semi finals. They can, for now pay full attention to this game. It won’t be easy away to Palace but Chelsea have got a lot of joy playing the Eagles in recent years and they should have few troubles here although expect them to work very hard for their win.

Mason Mount has been brilliant lately and we expect him to have the qualities to make a difference in this game also. Palace may play with more freedom and just leave those gaps for the away side and this could be a punishing game for them, and we expect the favourites to turn up and get all 3 points. Chelsea can’t afford to lose this one with so many teams involved in that top four chase.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Betting Tips:
