Chelsea vs West Brom: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 3rd April 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

It’s got to the stage now that after Manchester City the most fearsome team in the Premier League is Chelsea. The Blues are unbeaten since Thomas Tuchel arrived at the club just over 2 months ago. They have advanced to the quarter finals of the Champions League, the semi-finals of the FA Cup and are in 4th position in the league as they try to finish in a top four place.

Chelsea have been slick, professional, and solid under Tuchel. Their most threatening players have become better under the German, and at the weekend they will play 19th placed West Bromwich Albion as the odds on favourites.

The one worry for Tuchel would have been the timing of the international break since he wouldn’t have wanted the break-up of his squad. Tuchel will be working hard behind the scenes to get his players back into the mindset of the project developing at Chelsea and will not want a sluggish performance as so often can be the case after great form before an international break.

West Bromwich Albion are 8 points from safety but have Fulham to pass too and though they will fight on, the Baggies do look doomed now. The club have won just 3 games all season and will probably need to win 7 of their remaining 9 games to survive, that looks like a bridge too far.

On the road West Brom have the 2nd worst record and have won just 1 game from 14. Sam Allardyce’s team have only picked up 1 point from their last 15 away from home and their last game on the road ended in a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

Team News:

Chelsea: Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho all have niggling injuries and need to be assessed and they missed international games. They are being tipped to be fine, but no confirmation as of yet if any of them will be available. Thiago Silva is 50/50 due to a thigh injury.

West Bromwich Albion: Conor Gallagher cannot play because Chelsea are his parent club. Kieran Gibbs is 50/50 to return after his neck injury, although there have been no updates.

Chelsea vs West Brom Head to Head:

The teams have not played at Chelsea since 2018 when the home side won 3-0.

Earlier this season the teams drew 3-3.

Chelsea have scored 10 goals past West Brom in the last 3 league meetings.

West Bromwich Albion have not beaten Chelsea since 2015.

Chelsea vs West Brom Prediction:

Chelsea have some injury concerns and it would be wise to check the final team news just before the game. With the club in 4th place and the likes of West Ham, Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool within touching distance this is a must win game for the Blues, and after their superb form they will be expected to win this game.

For West Brom they must fight but they look predictable too and this should be an encounter where Allardyce ‘parks the bus’ and then hopes for something on the counter. This game will be all Chelsea, cat and mouse, and we cannot see West Brom keeping a clean sheet.

If Chelsea do have some key injuries out look to Hakim Ziyech who looks 10 times the player under Tuchel than he was under Lampard, and he should get forward more and could score.

Chelsea vs West Brom Betting Tips:

Half time/fulltime (Chelsea/Chelsea) at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Hakim Ziyech at 3.25
