Chelsea vs Leicester: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Thomas Tuchel has been under pressure for the last few months now, it’s not that his job is under threat but the German manager does not know if he will have to be replaced in the summer. This is also the case of many players at Chelsea because of the takeover of the club and these have been challenging times for a team who are still, let’s remember, the current European and World club champions. But it hasn’t felt like that in recent months as Chelsea try to confirm not 1st or 2nd place in the Premier League but 3rd.

That position can be rubber stamped with victory over Leicester on Thursday evening and the Blues will play at home again in their final game of the season at the weekend against Watford. Last weekend there was bitter disappointment for Chelsea as they lost in the FA Cup final against Liverpool. The game much like their Carabao Cup final also against Liverpool ended 0-0 and went to penalties. In the league there has been a lack of consistency and the club have only won 1 game from their past four which was a 3-0 victory at Leeds. At home it’s no better with again one win from their last four and their last home game ended in a 2-2 draw with Wolves, this was a poor result for the club given that they were leading that game 2-0.

Leicester are in 9th place and could confirm that position with a win here. Given all of their injuries this season a top half finish to the season would be seen as a small victory and the club have won their last two games. However some perspective needs to be attained given that they were against the two poorest clubs in the league this season in Norwich and Watford. But the Foxes also ran riot and have scored 8 goals in those games.

Away from home Brendan Rodgers side have lost 50% of their games with just one win in their past five and they are one goal short from conceding on average 2 goals per game on the road.

Team News:

Chelsea: Andreas Christensen officially has a knock but there have been rumours that the player has had a run in with his manager and is unlikely to feature again this season. Kai Havertz is back in training after his hamstring injury but is touch and go to be back for this game. Timo Werner has been ruled out with his hamstring.

Leicester: Hamza Choudhury has a groin injury and is out, Ricardo Pereira is 50/50 to return after his hamstring injury. Ndidi and Ryan Bertrand are out for the season.

Chelsea vs Leicester Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Chelsea beat Leicester 3-0 and have scored 5 goals past the Foxes in the last two meetings.

Last season Chelsea won this fixture 2-1.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Chelsea vs Leicester Prediction:

Chelsea are a long way off from a year ago when Tuchel got the job and seemed like everything he touched turned to gold. This feels more like reality for the club who face an uncertain future as the takeover has not felt seamless enough. But the Blues still have a very good team and with facing Leicester and Watford in their last two games one could believe that they will want to go out on a high. We think they can and Chelsea can not only win this game they can win it well, so we will be backing for them to score quite a few goals here.

The game will be open with both opportunities for the teams, there is nothing to lose for them now and Leicester will get their chances. It’s is unfortunate that Jamie Vardy has missed so many games through injury because he has scored four goals already from his come back and he can get on the score sheet again in midweek, but Chelsea should be too strong in the end.
