Burnley vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 11th April 2021
Kick off at 12noon BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley will feel another two wins would secure their Premier League status and they come into this weekend facing a genuine six pointer against Newcastle.

Sean Dyche’s team have 33 points and are 4 points above their opponents and 7 points clear of Fulham who played already in this round and lost at home to Wolves. That result makes this game even more intriguing as both teams will want to take advantage of Fulham’s plight.

Burnley’s form has been decent, though they did lose their last game against Southampton. That was a blow to the club given that they were leading 2-0 and blew it to lose 3-2. Still there is a feeling in the club that they are getting to safety, and even if they were to lose this game they have the benefit of knowing they will still hold that seven point gap to the bottom three.

Newcastle have struggled for the majority of the season and they are just 3 points ahead of 18th placed Fulham. However they have 2 games in hand over the Cottagers and that could be very telling. The Magpies have drawn 4 of their last 5 games as they try to pick up the points each weekend and it might just make all the difference. Away from home Newcastle have lost 9 games and have no wins in their last four.

Team News:

Burnley: Ashley Barnes and Robert Brady are still out and could miss the rest of the month. Kevin Long has a knock and looks a major doubt. Erik Pieters should return from a muscle injury.

Newcastle: Andy Carroll is being assessed for this game due to fitness issues, he is 50/50 to play. Ryan Fraser is likely to miss this one with his on going groin injury. Isaac Hayden is out for the season with his knee. Jamaal Lascelles is out with a foot injury.

Burnley vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Burnley beat Newcastle 1-0 last season in this fixture

Newcastle won 3-1 in the earlier fixture this season.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Burnley vs Newcastle Prediction:

Both clubs have the advantage of already knowing Fulham’s fate for this weekend. One could believe that they will take a draw and be happy with that. But that is a situation that only works for the home team. Newcastle need to pull clear and Fulham will be watching this game with interest hoping perhaps that Burnley win.

Newcastle have been poor on the road but they have recorded some good wins at Burnley in recent seasons and they have done well in terms of defeats lately. They showed good character last weekend to not be beaten by Tottenham also. They may not be favourites however they are good value to get at least a draw from this encounter, so we will back them for the win or draw.

There have been lots of question marks over Joelinton this season, he could well be one of the worst Premier League signings ever. However he did score last weekend and that may give him the confidence he needs to go on a run. Again there is risk involved but perhaps backing him to score in this game could make sense.
