Burnley vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd September 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley are still searching for their first win of the season and have picked up just one point from their four games played so far. It has been a harsh lesson given out to the Clarets so far after starting the season with 3 defeats in a row but they have had a tough start having to face Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham. Last Monday the club ended that losing run with a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest and manager Vincent Kompany has been bullish in his comments and mentioned that his side will improve and that there is more to come.

On the face of it having to face Manchester United as your next opponent looks like returning to losing ways again but United of course have had a poor start to the season and at times they have looked like they are heading in the wrong direction under Erik ten Hag. United had to play in midweek too travelling to Germany as they lost 4-3 in an exciting game against Bayern Munich. While Bayern were the better side one wonders if Ten Hag will be able to take something away from the game, at one point United looked like they would suffer a heavy loss but that didn’t happen in the end.

As for the domestic league it has been a shell shock start for the club who are already 9 points behind Manchester City. They have lost 3 of their last four games, losing against Tottenham, Arsenal and last weekend at home to Brighton in a game that ended 3-1. While the Red Devils have won two games this season both of those were unconvincing- a 1-0 win over Wolves with Wolves being the superior side and then they had to come back from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest at home, the pressure certainly remains on United coming into this game and while Burnley need a win there won’t be much pressure on the club to win here at this early stage of the season.

Team News:

Burnley: Lyle Foster is suspended for 3 games and won’t return until next month. Darko Churlinov is ill and remains a doubt to return for this game. Hjalmar Ekdal is out with a knee injury and Michael Obafemi is out with a hamstring injury

Manchester United: Harry Maguire will be assessed due to a muscle injury picked up in midweek. Tyrell Malacia remains a doubt with an ongoing knock. Amad Diallo is sidelined with his knee and Antony is unavailable

Burnley vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Burnley have managed just 1 win over Manchester United in the last 16 meetings.

The last time the sides played here was at the beginning of 2022 and the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

3 of the last four meetings have seen both teams to score.

Burnley vs Man Utd Prediction:

Manchester United really need a win here, even a draw would feel no good. Of course Burnley’s manager is Vincent Kompany, a Manchester City legend and he would love to get one over his former city rivals. While United possess the obvious quality they look weak and tired and have had to play in midweek in an important game which one would presume has sapped some players, this game therefore could be advantageous to Burnley.

Many may not go for a straight home win but it could be good value to back the home side on the handicap. As poor as Burnley have been there are goals in the side perhaps and they have scored four in their last three games. Manchester United should be winning these matches but who is brave enough to be backing them at this stage of the season?

Burnley vs Man Utd Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+1 Burnley) at 1.68

Anytime goalscorer: Rasmus Hojlund at 2.25

Both teams to score at 1.62
