Burnley vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 13th April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has been bullish this past week; he has a belief that his side, who a few weeks ago looked destined to go down, could well stay up. As we enter this weekend the Clarets are in 19th place with 19 points and are six points from safety but with a goal difference that is seven. The club did lose last weekend and that was a big loss in meaning as it came against fellow strugglers in Everton with that game ending 1-0. However that is Burnley’s only loss in their last five games and they have recently been able to record a win over Brentford and draws against Chelsea and Wolves.

Brighton, fresh from being dumped out of Europe are trying to get back into it again and they are in a good position to do so, the problem is that they are up against six sides for a few more places. The Seagulls form has been hit over the past month though and they have won just once and collected only 1 point from their last 9 on offer. At the weekend they were gazumped by a rampant Arsenal side losing 3-0 at home and their last away game ended in a scoreless draw against Brentford. This has felt like a difficult second half to the season for them. If results go their way they could pop back into 9th place and past Chelsea.

Team News:

Burnley: Dara O’ Shea is suspended, the Clarets have the following players out long term; Han-Noah Massengo, Ameen Al Dakhil, Jordan Beyer, Aaron Ramsey and Nathan Redmond

Brighton: Billy Gilmour remains out with a knee injury but could be back before the end of the month. Jack Hinshelwood, Tariq Lamptey, Soloman March, Kaoru Mitoma and Adam Webster are all out long term. James Milner could be assessed for fitness issues but he isn’t expected back for this game

Burnley vs Brighton Head to Head:

It’s been three and a half years since the clubs last played here and Brighton won 2-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished as a 1-1 draw.

From the last seven meetings Burnley has just one win.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Brighton Prediction:

We don’t expect to see a high quality game. One of the problems we have is that Brighton have suffered a plethora of injuries this season which has really handicapped them, they just don’t have that zip about them that they had last season and with a growing list they have had to be cautious and try to get points on the board but Brighton’s play overall has really started to suffer. At the same time they come up against a side who have been average to poor, a side who can start games well then lose concentration and we think while the home team will start on the front foot that even a depleted Brighton team can make life difficult for the Clarets. However let’s respect that Burnley are at home even if their home form has not been good enough- their manager is rallying the players, home is where the points look more likely, that’s where it has to be and we will be backing.
