Brighton vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd May 2022
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton will be trying to finish the season in 10th place as they play their final game at home and of the season. Has it been a good one for Graham Potter’s side and has Potter who is tipped to rise to the top as an English manager impressed? The answer in both cases has to be yes. Not only has the club recorded some impressive wins they have won seven more points than last season with this game to go and could well improve their position over last season to six places.

The Seagulls form coming into this game is good and they are unbeaten in their last four with two wins and two draws. In their last game they drew at Leeds 1-1 which was a disappointment as they were seconds away from a win. However let’s talk about their last match at home which ended in a quite superb 4-0 win over Manchester United no less. The club have improved at home in the last month but overall they have just four wins here so far.

West Ham look to have put the disappointment of their Europa League campaign behind them and since then they have crushed Norwich 4-0 and held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw. The Hammers were leading by two goals but playing quality like City that isn’t always enough but more importantly than that this is a club who have vastly improved under the leadership of David Moyes, that is plain to see.

The good news for West Ham is that they will be playing European football next season, although for now that is in the Conference League- the third tier so to speak of European competition. They could play in the Europa League with victory here and then hope that Manchester United either draw or lose in their final game. The worry the Hammers have here is that even though they won their last away game (against bottom club Norwich) they have only earned 3 points from their last 15 away from home.

Team News:

Brighton: Enock Mwepu (groin) and Jeremy Sarmiento (hamstring) are only 50/50 to make this game and will have to be assessed.

West Ham: Said Benrahma has an ankle injury and is rated as only 50/50 for this match.

Brighton vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture which was the same result earlier in the season.

Both teams to score has happened in the last six games in a row.

West Ham have not beaten Brighton in 10 years.

Brighton vs West Ham Prediction:

These games have tended to be very close of late and in truth there isn’t much between the sides. West Ham’s away form can be questioned but you feel the players will be up for this game, it is an important one for them and while they cannot control what happens at Manchester United, they know if they can win this they have every chance to have another Europa League adventure. This will also be Mark Noble’s final game for the club and the veteran player who has served the club so well had an emotional send off at his final home game last weekend.

Brighton of course will go all out to win this game being their final home match and the chance to try and claim 10th place. It is becoming uncanny how many times the clubs are drawing games and we may well see that again today, but we think West Ham will do their absolute best and give everything and that may well be enough to see a Hammers victory and they are great value to do so, so we will be taking them on to get at least a point.
