England Premier League
Sunday 19th May 2024
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium
Match Preview:
After the last few successful seasons this one may have alarm bells attached to it for Brighton who will finish mid-table but have not been at their usual best. Injuries haven’t helped of course but there have been rumours that manager Roberto De Zerbi could leave the club at the end of the season, we will have to see. The Seagulls have lost three of their last five games and form hasn’t improved overall. The club's last game ended in a 2-1 loss at home to Chelsea although their only win of the last five games was ironically to one of the best sides in the league this season, Aston Villa. At home De Zerbi’s side have won 8 of their 18 games so far and based on home form alone they would be in 9th place. As it stands the club are in 10th with 48 points and they cannot finish higher even if they were to win this game. However in a worse case scenario they could finish as low as 13th on the final day of the season.
Manchester United gave their supporters something to cheer about in midweek as they won their final home game of the season beating Newcastle 3-2 in an entertaining fixture. This has not been a good season for the club and it is believed that manager Erik ten Hag’s job is on the line. United are in 8th place and they will have to win this game to have any chance of playing in some sort of European competition next season but even that is not guaranteed. The win over Newcastle ended a 3 game run with no wins and the clubs last away match ended in a 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace. Given that West Ham are 5 points behind in 9th there is no way that United can finish lower than 8th, a win could see them go past Newcastle to finish in 7th but that depends on how they get on on the same day.
Team News:
Brighton: There are no new injuries for the Seagulls but quite a few players are out long term which include; Lewis Dunk, Pervis Estupinan, Jack Hinshelwood, Evan Ferguson, Kaoru Mitoma, James Milner, Soloman March, Joel Veltman and Jan-Paul van Hecke.
Manchester United: Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, Mason Mount and Raphael Varane are rated at 50/50 to return for this final game of the season, all have fitness issues. Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire are all out.
Brighton vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season in this fixture Brighton won 1-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brighton won 3-1.
Brighton have won 4 of the past five games against Manchester United with United’s last win in the league coming back in 2022.
There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Brighton vs Man Utd Prediction:
Brighton are the sort of team that can beat Manchester United where a decade ago that would have been laughed off. Both clubs have had their own problems this season but you’d have to worry about how many key players are now missing for the home side and United try to give it one more big push to finish as high as they can. United have been unstable of course and it feels risky backing them away from home after what happened against Palace lately but they are a decent price. We expect a cautious game though and wouldn’t be surprised if we saw few goals in this one.
Brighton vs Man Utd Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (+0.5 Manchester United) at 1.70
Anytime goalscorer: Marcus Rashford at 3.25
