Brighton vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd October 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Saturday’s games in the Premier League will be rounded off by Manchester City’s visit to Brighton. On paper this would be a rather easy victory for Pep Guardiola’s side but Brighton have started the season very positively and being at home they are not to be counted out.

Graham Potter’s side are in 4th place and have surprised many with 15 points and just 1 defeat so far. The club have won 50% of their games and are only four points behind leaders Chelsea. Despite good form Brighton haven’t won any of their last 3 games, however they haven’t lost them either, drawing 3 on the spin. Drawing away to Crystal Palace and at home to Arsenal are not terrible results at all but their last match which ended 0-0 against bottom club Norwich would have been seen as 2 points dropped, win that game and the club would have climbed to 3rd place and above City.

This is 3rd vs 4th place and if Brighton do shock their opponents they would go above them and raise many eyebrows. There is no doubt that Potter is doing a fantastic job so far and he may have suitors up north soon in the shape of Newcastle.

Manchester City have either been scoring many goals or very little but the club look strong and even though they are not in 1st place yet they are showing a presence. In 3rd place Guardiola’s side are only 2 points behind Chelsea and have only lost once and are unbeaten in the league now for 2 months.

Last weekend there was a battling but routine 2-0 win over Burnley and in the Champions League in midweek City made light work of Club Brugge beating them 5-1 away from home. City have scored 16 goals so far although Liverpool have netted six more times than them. But much like last season it is all about defence and City has conceded just 3 goals so far, all have been away from home.

On the road City’s record includes two wins, one draw and one defeat but are unbeaten away from home for their last 3 games. Their last away match ended in a 2-2 draw at Liverpool which would have felt like a victory given that they were losing that duel.

Team News:

Brighton: Adam Webster is a doubt because of fitness. Danny Welbeck is still out with his hamstring. Steven Alzate is out long term with an ankle injury.

Manchester City: Ferran Torres is out for at least 8 weeks with a foot injury.

Brighton vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 3-2 to Brighton.

Manchester City have won 8 from the last 10 meetings against Brighton.

There is a 60% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

The teams have not drawn 0-0 since 1984.

Brighton vs Man City Prediction:

Manchester City are 1.44 to win this game which screams no value. True City have a far superior team to Brighton but we must remember they are playing the 4th best team in the league and doing so away from home. We must also remember that Brighton won this game last season. So the odds on price being quoted seems more out of respect for the team that City are and what they can achieve over 90 minutes.

Guardiola will know he is up against a well respected manager in Potter and Brighton are going to give City a tough game. City of course have the tools to win but they will have to dig deep to get it, so to increase the odds without increasing the risk beyond that of a City win could be the way to go here. Therefore a "-1 asian handicap" looks the best option.

Brighton vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man City) at 1.675

Over 2.5 goals at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Ilkay Gundogan at 3.75
