Brighton vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 4th February 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton keep surprising and they come into this game in 6th place with 31 points and are unbeaten in their last 3. Following two wins in a row the Seagulls drew 2-2 at Leicester in their last game but they will be tipped to win this one at home. While Roberto De Zerbi’s side are 5 points behind fifth placed Tottenham it’s important to note that they have two games in hand over them and while a top four finish may sound like a stretch with the quality in front of them, one has to wonder if a Europa League finish is not a realistic target.

At home Brighton have actually managed less points with 14 of their 31 coming this way and that includes losing 2 of their last three games. However the fans will remember the clubs last home game for a very long time as they beat Liverpool very convincingly in a 3-0 victory. Just to rub it in at the weekend they also knocked out Liverpool with a 2-1 win and the club will be absolutely buzzing at this time.

Bournemouth are in 18th place and are in a real relegation struggle, though win at the weekend and they could well be out of it but as the season goes on it is becoming clearer which teams will be battling and Bournemouth look to be one of those sides. This is evidenced in the fact that Gary O’Neil’s side have lost 11 times from 20 games and have managed just 1 point from their last 15. In their last game they did manage a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest, however away form has been poor. So poor in fact that on goal difference the Cherries have the worst record in league with 5 points won from a possible 30. They have scored 9 goals and conceded 31 which is the worst defensive record in the league.

Team News:

Brighton: Alexis MacAllister is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Adam Lallana looks set to miss out again with a muscle injury. Facundo Buonanotte is pencilled in to return from a back injury and will be assessed

Bournemouth: David Brooks is only 50/50 to return due to a hamstring injury, Lewis Cook could miss out again with his knee. Dominic Solanke is out with a knee injury with no fixed return date. Junior Stanilas is only rated as a 50/50 chance due to his muscle injury

Brighton vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The last time the teams played this fixture was in 2019 and Brighton won 2-0.

Bournemouth have won seven of the last 10 meetings.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Brighton vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Bournemouth have had far the better results over Brighton in the last decade but only one of these clubs has gone up a level and that is Brighton. Given also that the Seagulls are at home we are banking on them to win this game and ease to victory. They will miss Alexis MacAllister in midfield but what the club has proven this season is how they keep bouncing back from bad news and have a brilliant mentality.

With some key players missing for Bournemouth and with them having the worst away record in the Premier League we don’t see any chance here for them however neither do the bookies and a Brighton win is 1.30 which will put a few punters off so we will look into different markets.
