England Premier League
Saturday 2nd October 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium
Normally this isn’t a game that would catch the eye of the neutral but this one has the potential to be the game of the weekend in the Premier League. The reason? Brighton have started positively and are playing good attacking football, and Arsenal after a shaky start are getting back on track, so something has to give.
Graham Potter’s side could have gone top of the league last weekend had they beaten Crystal Palace away. It was never going to be an easy game and in the end they are lucky to have escaped with a point given that it was 1-0 to Palace with merely seconds remaining. But Neal Maupay who has been in great form so far got the last ditch equaliser and the Brighton train roars on. They come into this game in 6th place but are just 1 point behind the league leaders Liverpool.
Arsenal played some wonderful football last weekend, and they saved it for their biggest rivals Tottenham. It was 3-0 by half time and though the final score finished 3-1 no Gunners fans will be complaining. Arsenal didn’t win because Tottenham were poor, they won because they played like it was 2004 all over again. Lovely one two’s darting and intelligent runs, it was a joy to see, because the game was so fluid and connected. This was not the Arsenal that we have seen at the beginning of the season. Now fans will be wondering if this performance was being saved up to get one over the old rival, or have Mikel Arteta’s side turned the page?
The win for the Gunners ironically put them ahead of Tottenham albeit on goal difference but it has moved them up to 10th place, not bad going when at the beginning of September they were bottom of the league, that feels like a distant memory now.
Arsenal are the in form team right now with 3 wins in a row and victory number 4 could notch them up a couple of more places depending of course on other results around them.
Brighton: Steven Alzate is out with his ankle injury. Yves Bissouma has made good progress with his knee and has an outside chance of playing. Danny Welbeck is a major doubt with a hamstring injury.
Arsenal: Granit Xhaka has been ruled out for at least 3 months with a knee injury sustained against Tottenham. It is a blow but he is the only injury worry for the club.
Brighton vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Arsenal won this fixture 1-0.
5 from the last seven meetings has seen both sides to score.
The last 0-0 between the clubs happened in 1982.
Arsenal did the double over Brighton last season.
Brighton vs Arsenal Prediction:
This has the potential to be end to end and quite a thrilling encounter. If Arsenal really have found their belief again then we should see a confident side who won’t be weary of facing this tricky encounter. With 3 wins in a row Arsenal have something to aim for now and after convincingly beating their London rivals so well the fans are back on track and everything seems rosy at the club for now. That all gets dashed with a poor performance here and Arteta will need his players to put a shift in.
Arsenal are a decent price to get the three points and we will back them with the draw covered on the refund. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a brilliant game last weekend, is he also back to his best? This game if anything does have questions to ask. Brighton have done well but we will stick with the best form side in the Premier League and opt for an away win.
