Brentford vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 22nd January 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

On Saturday we have two teams playing each other who have punched above their weight this season. Wolves focus will be a European spot and Brentford will be trying to survive in the league.

Brentford’s manager Thomas Frank was very ‘frank’ after the club lost 3-1 to Manchester United in midweek and believed his team ‘smashed’ Ralf Rangnick’s side. It was certainly a game of two halves and the Bees had played some great football but in the end were undone by their finishing. They have the luck at least to remain at home for this game. However whilst the Bees have been able to make life hard for some of the more successful teams in the league the cold hard facts are that the majority of their home results have ended in defeats with six from 11 games so far and that includes losing here in 2 of their last 3 games.

Brentford come into this game in 14th place with 23 points and are 10 points in front of the bottom three but they have lost their last 3 games.

Wolves have 8 more points than their hosts and are in 8th place. Bruno Lage’s side cannot improve on their position given they are 4 points behind seventh placed Manchester United but they can certainly keep up their hope for a European finish this season. The club are in very good form and are unbeaten in their last 4 games which includes 3 wins.

Wolves have beaten Manchester United and Southampton in their last two games and have the 6th best away record in the Premier League earning 17 points from a possible 30 and they have won their last two away games.

Wolves: Marcal has a knock which forced him to miss the clubs last game but he is being tipped to return for this one. Hwang Hee-Chan is not expected back for another two weeks with a calf injury. Ruben Neves should return from illness but will have to be assessed. Romain Saiss is on international duty. Willy Boly, Pedro Neto, Jonny and Yerson Mosquera are all out long term.

Brentford vs Wolves Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played at Brentford was back in 2017 and the game finished 0-0.

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Brentford won 2-0.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Brentford vs Wolves Prediction:

You could argue that Brentford have already done the hard work as they beat Wolves away already but this was at the beginning of the season when Wolves were finding their way under Bruno Lage and the teams fortunes have reversed since then. It will be interesting to see if the home side will react to their managers words when they take on Wolves. What was a positive for the club was that even though they lost their last game Ivan Toney scored. Toney was very dominant in the Championship but has struggled this season in the Premier League but maybe scoring against Manchester United will have done his confidence wonders.

Wolves are one of the most in form sides in the league and they will make this game very tricky for the home side, and Wolves have the experience to win games like this. The market is very open and we will be backing Lage’s side to get something from this encounter and heap more pressure on the Bees.
