Brentford vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd September 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

This fixture may not seem like one of the most stand out ones in Europe let alone the Premier League but it will be one of the most anticipated because Everton are in dire need of a win. The famous club who have been flirting with relegation over the past two seasons look in trouble for this one. Of course it is early days and that is one way of looking at it but at the same time Everton have played almost 15% of the season and games, weeks and months go quickly.

Let’s focus on Brentford who only lost their first game of the season last weekend in  a narrow loss away to Newcastle. The Bees have been solid so far but although they have only lost one game they have also only won one. That win came away from home in an impressive 3-0 victory over Fulham. So far though Thomas Frank’s side have been drawing their games which have been against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Tottenham, indeed Brentford are the only team so far to have taken points from Tottenham.

Everton has just 1 point from a possible 15 in what has been a poor start from the club. It is true that the club have actually played some good games and been unlucky in some of their home matches but they still seem to be lacking all round quality and you’d have to question the confidence of the team. One could argue though that the forward line has not been able to play together properly yet on a consistent basis as Everton have gambled on the signing of Beto to get them goals and they will be hoping that Dominic Calvert-Lewin can get a good run out and try to avoid getting injured which has frequently happened to him over the past year. Everton’s latest result was a 1-0 loss at home to Arsenal and their only point of the season so far has come away from home when they drew 2-2 against Sheffield United. Everton are currently in 18th place and with a win at the weekend could move up 2-3 places.

Team News:

Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer is expected to return from a knock, Mikkel Damsgaard is only 50/50 to return from a shoulder injury. Shandon Baptiste is still sidelined with his shoulder injury, Henry Rico has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Joshua Dasilva is out with a hamstring injury, Ben Mee will be assessed after picking up a knock last week and Ivan Toney is currently serving a ban.

Everton: There are no new injuries coming into this game but Dele Alli (hip) and Seamus Coleman (knee) remain out. Jack Harrison has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness, he may be assessed.

Brentford vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture.

In the last four games Everton have lost just once but three of those games have been at home.

3 of the last four meetings has witnessed both teams to score.

Brentford vs Everton Prediction:

Brentford have remained a solid outfit if not brilliant but manager Thomas Frank will understand the clubs limitations, make no mistake this season is all about not being involved in a relegation battle. Currently the Bees are in 11th place and could push up into the top half of the table with a win here depending on other results above them. The clubs do not have a consistent recent history but Everton have not been able to beat Brentford away in the two games played here with a narrow 1-0 win for the Bees and a 1-1 draw.

Everton have enjoyed more success at home to Brentford and over the past few seasons Everton’s away record has been simply miserable. However after starting this campaign with 3 defeats from three home games perhaps the Toffees are going to feel a little more confident on the road in this period of the season but Sean Dyche’s side are up against a tricky opponent, we expect a close game. If Everton can click because the quality is in the team at one point to do so this could be a win but we think that is too early for the club, and this could well be another game where the misery continues. The worry for the Toffees is the lack of goals with just 2 converted so far.
