Brentford vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th October 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Brentford Community Stadium

Match Preview:

This is a London derby that isn’t really talked about and that owes to the fact that Brentford have not played top flight football since the 1940s. They have been very much welcomed though into the Premier League and have already pulled off some fantastic results that have included beating Arsenal and drawing 3-3 with Liverpool.

The Bees are in 7th place and have gone their last 3 games unbeaten and have been utterly impressive. They are clearly enjoying the season so far and are gaining those points which could see them safe this season.

Brentford’s last game ended in an impressive 2-1 win away to West Ham and victory here would be a stunning result and would see the club move into the top 5.

Chelsea will be the favourites of course to win this game and the Blues are in 1st place coming into this weekend. However there is only 2 points between them and 6th placed Brighton so even a draw here would not guarantee that Thomas Tuchel’s side are in top place by the end of the weekend.

The Blues bounced back from their 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City to beat Southampton 3-1 before the international break and Chelsea have won 3 of their last four games.

On the road Chelsea have been impressive beating Tottenham and Arsenal and they have also drawn against Liverpool. Tuchel’s side have also conceded just once on the road and even that was a penalty.

Team News:

Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer looks to have recovered from his hamstring issue and will be assessed. Shandon Baptiste is out with a shoulder injury. Vitaly Janelt will face a late test after his recent thigh injury.

Chelsea: Reece James is recovering from an ankle injury and remains a doubt for this game. N’Golo Kante has a lack of match fitness but will be assessed. Romelu Lukaku is being tipped to be fine for the game after having some minor muscle injuries. Christian Pulisic is out with an ankle injury. Antonio Rudiger has a back injury and will be assessed. Thiago Silva is a doubt as he is returning from international duty.

Brentford vs Chelsea Head to Head:

The clubs last played each other in 2017 in the FA Cup, and Chelsea at home won 4-0.

The last time the clubs played at Brentford was in 2013 again in the FA Cup and that game finished 2-2.

Brentford have not beaten Chelsea since 1939 although the clubs have only met 6 times since then.

Chelsea have scored 8 goals without reply in the teams last two meetings.

Brentford vs Chelsea Prediction:

Brentford have already proven how hard they are to beat at home and there will be a clear agenda within the team to make their home games difficult for any opposition. It might be a stretch to think that the Bees can win this game but they will certainly have no fear after their start to the season.

Obviously Chelsea are loaded with fantastic players and on paper this is a no contest. But the atmosphere will be electric and if Liverpool can be held then why can’t Chelsea? Of course if the Blues score early the game could change but we expect to see a very competitive game from Brentford although the smart money has to be backing Chelsea.

Considering the gulf in quality there is great value on the away side to get the win in this game.

Brentford vs Chelsea Betting Tips:
