Bournemouth vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th November 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Bournemouth are in the bottom three with just six points but if they win here and Luton do not beat Manchester United away from home then the Cherries would escape that this weekend. In fact even a draw would do if Luton were to lose. It’s been a dreadful start from Bournemouth though who have lost 7 of their 11 games so far and a recent 2-1 win over Burnley was cut short last weekend when they were hammered 6-1 away to Manchester City.

But the club have to understand that the City result was always on the cards and they need to try and protect themselves at home, the problem is Newcastle are an emerging side and Bournemouth will not be the favourites to win this game. Recent form doesn’t bode well with four defeats from their last five and at home they have won 5 points from a possible eighteen. It’s just 4 goals scored at home too and they are almost shipping two a game here.

Newcastle felt just how hard the Champions League is as they lost 2-0 away to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, that result means that the German side have beaten them both home and away and their Champions League hopes now hang from a thread. Back in the Premier League the Magpies became the first side to beat Arsenal this season with a 1-0 victory at home, it was important to keep up with the front pack. But they will have to do it all over again as they are still seven points shy of league leaders Manchester City but for Eddie Howe’s side this season will be all about a top four finish again and they come into this game in sixth place and are four points behind 4th placed Arsenal, there is certainly a lot to play for.

Team News:

Bournemouth: Murara Neto has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and will need to be assessed. Darren Randolph is expected to miss out once again due to illness. Alex Scott will miss the next 2 months at least with a knee injury. Ryan Fredericks, Tyler Adams and Emiliano Marcondes are all out long term.

Newcastle: Bruno Guimaraes is suspended for this game after being sent off last weekend. Callum Wilson will be assessed but hasn’t confirmed to be fit for the weekend. There are long term injuries for Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Matt Targett and Dan Burn. Alexander Isak misses out again due to his groin and isn’t pencilled in to return until the end of the month. Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes won’t return until the end of the year and Javier Manquillo is likely to miss out again due to his groin injury.

The last 3 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.

Bournemouth vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle haven’t lost a game since the beginning of September but draws are starting to upset their flow, much like last season. However they are unbeaten in their last three away games with a huge 8-0 win over Sheffield United and that was followed up with two draws against West Ham and Wolves. The Magpies have been solid after a slow start but there have to be genuine concerns over their away form and based just on this they would be in 15th place and have earned only 5 points from 15.

This is a game much like the recent Wolves one where Newcastle will be in a real battle and there could be the hint of an upset. The problem for the Magpies is that they are not getting the points consistently away from home and at which point will that start to hurt them? But you also have to take one look at their injury list which is growing by the week. They still have the team to win this game however, and we do still think they will get the win. Bournemouth have been poor and are looking like a side without the quality needed to be worth backing in this encounter.
