Aston Villa vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th October 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa started the season slow (no fan will want to be reminded of their opening weekend game with Watford). However Dean Smith’s side are starting to improve, so much so that anyone that follows the game can look past the fact that they lost their last match against Tottenham before the international break.

Villa look solid, well organised and dangerous in attack and that was highlighted the game before Tottenham when they went to Old Trafford and beat Manchester United 1-0. It wasn’t even a lucky win, Villa were the better side. Currently the club are in 10th place and have 10 points and they will fancy themselves in this game and if all goes well with results around them they could climb 3-4 places.

Wolves have won 3 of their last four games, which includes coming into this one with back to back victories against Southampton and Newcastle. Bruno Lage’s side started the season poorly and even at this early stage the writing seemed on the wall but there has obviously been a lot of behind the scenes work. Raul Jimenez’s goal after his lengthy time out against Southampton also seems to have rejuvenated the side and they come into this game with some confidence although in Wolves’ case perhaps the international break has broken some of that momentum.

Wolves would go past Aston Villa with a win here and are only 1 point behind Dean Smith’s side. From 3 games played away Wolves have won 2, including their last two, so they remain a danger to get something here.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Leon Bailey is out with a thigh injury but could be back next week. Keinan Davis will be assessed because of fitness issues. Bertrand Traore has a thigh issue but will be assessed and could make the cut.

Wolves: Trincao could return from illness. Pedro Neto, Jonny and Yerson Mosquera are all out long term.

Aston Villa have managed 4 wins over Wolves from the last 10 meetings.

Aston Villa vs Wolves Prediction:

This has the ingredients to be a fast flowing and entertaining game and the teams share similar form. Wolves have a spring in their step and have the motivation that victory here would see them go past Villa, but Villa will have to be respected at home.

Even though there has been a recent history of a lack of goals between the sides we don’t see that being an issue at the weekend. Villa have scored 5 goals in their last 3 games and while Wolves have just 3, because this match should be end to end that is going to create many goalscoring opportunities. We are still so early into the season that risks can be taken as the teams fight for the points.

As for the outcome, backing the draw does come with a risk, but Villa at home would expect will have more than enough for this Wolves side and they are very good value to get the points. Danny Ings has been a superb buy for the club and in fairness he is the type of player really suited to the face past of the Premier League and these type of games, he is worth backing anytime to score.

Aston Villa vs Wolves Betting Tips:
