Aston Villa vs Fulham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 4th April 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

There was a moment about a month ago when Aston Villa were in 8th place and still had 2 games in hand where they could in theory gone to 4th, in other words they could have been Champions League contenders. However the month of March was not kind to Dean Smith’s team and that dream evaporated in front of their eyes. Now Villa are in 10th place and despite having 1 game in hand they look destined at best to finish 7th or 8th.

Villa come into this game having no wins in their last 4 encounters with their match before the international break finishing in a disappointing 2-0 loss to Tottenham. Villa have looked a little lost and quite frankly toothless and they will have to buck up their ideas if they want to play European football next season.

Fulham have played good football this year but one has to wonder if the club are tiring? Recent form suggests so and the Cottagers have lost 3 of their last four games including back to back games coming into this- their last defeat came at home to Leeds, who in fairness didn’t need the win as badly as Fulham.

Scott Parker’s team are 2 points from survival and if Tottenham have done them a favour in beating Newcastle then this remains a huge game for Fulham.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Jack Grealish did have fitness problems but should be fine to play in this game. Wesley will be assessed for fitness issues and could miss out but should be back next week if so.

Fulham: Josh Onomah should be back after his recent knock, Marek Rodek will likely miss out again with his hand injury.

Aston Villa vs Fulham Head to Head:

Aston Villa won the reverse fixture earlier in the season 3-0.

The last time the clubs met here in the Premier League was in 2014 when Fulham won 2-1.

5 of their last seven Premier League meetings have ended in under 2.5 goals.

Aston Villa vs Fulham Prediction:

This will be a tough game for Fulham, and Aston Villa have been poor but are due a win and where better to get that than at home. Fulham just seem to have lost that bite, having said that perhaps the international break has helped them given that their form had clearly dipped.

But the temptation is to back Villa for the win here and the returning Jack Grealish should also be picked to scored anytime. We have to remind ourselves that Fulham have been only able to win 3 games away from home this season, and Villa on their day as they have proved by their league standing can be a very decent team. The value on the home win is also very good so we can even cover the draw on the refund.
