Arsenal vs Norwich: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th September 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal have endured their worst start to a league campaign in 67 years but wasn’t it all supposed to get better after Arsene Wenger left? That hasn’t been the case and the Gunners have been slipping and sliding for some time. However not even the most critical fan could have believed that after 3 games their club would be bottom of the table. Indeed Arsenal have yet to score a goal, but at the weekend that surely will change.

There should be no disrespect towards Norwich, but if Arsenal fail to win this game and indeed if they lose it, one would have to question how long Mikel Arteta will have left in the job.

This is an expected victory for Arsenal and they need it not just for Arteta’s job or to get points on the board but also to forget their last result which finished in a 5-0 whitewash against the champions Manchester City- a contest that was over in the first 15 minutes.

Norwich are in the same boat as the Gunners, in 19th with no wins, they have conceded 10 goals already and scored just once. However they have had a nightmare fixture list for a team that have just come back up and have had to face Manchester City and Liverpool. Leicester was their latest game which they lost at home 2-1.

Team News:

Arsenal: Sead Kolasinac has a knock and is a doubt. Emile Smith-Rowe is ill and is also a doubt but hasn’t been ruled out just yet. Granit Xhaka is suspended and serving a 3 game ban for his earlier red card.

Norwich: Kenny Mclean has a knock and will be assessed. Bali Mumba could be out long term with a knee injury.

Arsenal vs Norwich Head to Head:

The Last time the two teams met here was in 2020 and Arsenal won 4-0.

Arsenal have managed to score 8 goals past Norwich in their last 3 meetings.

Norwich have not won away at Arsenal in 29 years.

There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Norwich Prediction:

Arsenal need to start aggressively and with passion and have an attacking flair about them. If they start slow it might be evident that the players do not want to play for the manager anymore. But we have to also look beyond the Premier League for what could happen here. In the EFL Cup for example Arsenal beat West Bromwich Albion 6-0. True the Baggies did not put out a strong side but they are still Championship material and Norwich have just come from there. That didn’t work out well against Brentford because the Gunners got caught cold on the opening day of the season and were away from home. We should expect Arsenal to drop many points on the road this season, but at home and against clubs such as Norwich, that simply is not going to be an acceptable bar.

Arsenal are only 1.50 to win this, which says a lot about where the club are at. Normally that price would be around the 1.30 mark. We should take the risk and back the Gunners to run out comfortable winners.
