Arsenal vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd January 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal keep passing the tests but if they pass this one then people may start to believe that their title challenge really is possible. Manchester United are the only side to have beaten the Gunners so far but at home you would expect that Mikel Arteta’s team are going to be confident as they head into this weekend with a 5 point gap over Manchester City.

Arsenal’s latest victory was as sweet as it got as they beat derby rivals Tottenham 2-0 and it was away from home. That was the Gunners 15th win of the season and they have earned 13 points from their last 15 on offer. On form Arsenal would rank in 1st place and the loss of Gabriel Jesus to injury has not affected the club at all. They have also just signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £21m, he would have been a free agent in the summer but the club believe spending the money to acquire his services now is smart business and Trossard has been one of the best players in the league in this campaign.

At home only Newcastle have taken points from Arsenal with a recent 0-0 draw otherwise Arsenal have won all their games scoring 22 goals and conceding just 8.

Manchester United fans have been talking about a surprise title challenge after their recent form but that was brought back down to earth somewhat as they drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace in their last game. However if they win here expect that hope to resurface as they would reduce the gap to 5 points albeit Arsenal would have a game in hand and Manchester City would between them but it has been a glorious period for United. The Red Devils have won 22 points from their last 30 and with 39 points they are only 3 points shy of Manchester City. On the road United have the 3rd best record with 17 points from 30 and are unbeaten in their last three trips.

Team News:

Arsenal: Gabriel Jesus is still sidelined with a knee injury with no fixed return date and Reiss Nelson could be back in two weeks time due to his on going muscle injury.

Manchester United: Casemiro has a 1 match ban and misses this game, Diego Dalot remains a doubt with a muscle injury and is only 50/50 to make this one. Anthony Martial is in the same positon with his leg although could be assessed. Jadon Sancho has fitness issues and could miss out again.

Arsenal vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse match Manchester United won 3-1.

Manchester United have not won at Arsenal in a league game in 5 years.

The last 3 meetings have all seen over 3.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Man Utd Prediction:

Manchester United have been flying but the last minute draw against Crystal Palace in midweek would have damaged momentum there is no doubt about that, with the way the result came about. United are a good team under manager Erik ten Hag and they are certainly going in the right direction but one has to wonder if success is coming rather too quick for them. Surely the objective is establishing the club back into Champions League football first.

Arsenal have more experience under Arteta, they have been there and seen it and United of course remain the old enemy when the two teams were battling for league titles in the early part of the 2000s. For us Arsenal are in the driving seat and we believe they can get the result they need at the weekend and win this game- still expect high drama.
