Arsenal vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd May 2022
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

And so it comes down to the last day of the season for this Arsenal side who must win this game to have any chance of qualifying for next seasons Champions League. However if Tottenham beat or draw against Norwich then it won’t matter what the Gunners do in this game.

The reason that Champions League football is not in Arsenal’s hands is simply down to their form in the last week- losing against Tottenham and then Newcastle has been a killer blow to the club and coming into this weekend they are not favourites to get 4th place and trail Tottenham by two points.

It’s been 12 wins at home from 18 games played and that would rank Arsenal in 4th place for home results. They have beaten both Manchester United and Leeds here in their last two games.

Everton come into this game in the best and highest of spirits after finally securing their safety in midweek as they beat Crystal Palace 3-2 at Goodison Park. It was an incredible atmosphere and an incredible game given that the Toffees were losing 2-0 at half time. It is party time for Everton who can plan their visit to London without any pressure and worries.

This hasn’t been a great season for Everton but on form they would be 4th in the league and have won 10 points from their last 15. On the road is where Everton have  really suffered and they have one of the worst away records in the league. However they have gone their last two games unbeaten after beating Leicester and drawing with Watford.

Team News:

Arsenal: Takehiro Tomiyasu has a muscle injury but is expected to be fine. Kieran Tierney (knee) and Thomas Partey (thigh) are both out for the season.

Everton: Salomon Rondon is serving his suspension and he now has been ruled out for the season. Yerry Mina has an on going calf injury and looks doubtful to return this season. Fabian Delph has a muscle injury and is also a big doubt to play any further part in the season.

Arsenal vs Everton Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Everton won 2-1.

Everton have won the last 3 meetings against Arsenal.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Everton’s win over Arsenal last season in London was the Toffees first victory away since 1996.

Arsenal vs Everton Prediction:

Arsenal will have to start quickly and with pace which could well unsettle this Everton side. But it could well be a game that ebbs and flows. The news from the Tottenham game will come from the fans and everything will get relayed. If Tottenham are cruising against Norwich expect Arsenal to step off the gas and that could let Everton in for a surprise result. We say surprise because even though Everton have had the better of Arsenal in recent fixtures they rarely win in London against the Gunners.

This is a game that a few days ago meant that both teams needed to win this one, that isn’t the case now. One could expect that Everton’s players would have rightly enjoyed the night away on Thursday, and they simply will not be 100% for this game. That is the reality of the situation. At the same time they are professionals and with nothing to lose sometimes we can see teams play good football, all of the pressure is on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal are the odds on favourites but there is a genuine threat from Everton who will want to still finish the season strong and there is a chance of taking 15th place from Southampton. For value we will back Everton on the handicap but Arsenal may just have too many tools at home to get all three points. However this game really does depend what is happening in the Tottenham match.
