Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

After a long hard season it comes down to this final game for Arsenal who could be crowned champions in front of their home fans for the first time in 20 years but the scenario does not seem likely. Arsenal are 2 points behind league leaders Manchester City so if City win it doesn’t matter what happens in this game. However City must win, even a draw for the champions would hand the title to Arsenal if they can win here.

Arsenal have hardly put a foot wrong this season but if they do not win the league they are going to look back a few weeks ago when they lost at home to Aston Villa as a telling point. It has been pointed out also that if you want to beat Manchester City to the title you need to be able to produce 90 points plus and the most Arsenal could get this season is 89. Form has been spot on for the Gunners who have the best recent form alongside City and at home they have won 14 of their 18 games so far. In their last two games at home they have beaten Chelsea and Bournemouth and scored 8 goals.

Everton historically come here and get thumped but manager Sean Dyche has really improved the defence this season and that has shown especially in the second half of it. While this may have seemed to be a terrible season for Everton the reality speaks differently and while the club has suffered at times without the points deductions they would be on 48 points and in 11th place. Everton really found their form when they most needed it towards the end of the season and the club has won 4 of their last five games and gone a month unbeaten.

Team News:

Arsenal vs Everton Prediction:

Arsenal of course will be the odds on favourites to win and they have everything to play for in this game while Everton have only a game to play in and try to do their best, nothing rests on this game for Everton who have already done all of the hard work to survive this season. Everton have traditionally struggled away to Arsenal with just one win in London in the past 28 years and that was behind closed doors because of the pandemic. Arsenal have some fantastic wins over Everton but it will be fascinating to see how the Gunners come out. They need to start strong and if they can score early then we expect them to get a few, but we also expect Everton’s rigid defence to make Arsenal work for everything. We would be very surprised if Arsenal can’t find a win here, with their attacking line up, we expect them to have much of the ball but a relaxed Everton side will also try to counter and that could be a problem for the home side, but not many people are going to see past a home victory.
